I remember you by Cathleen Davitt Bell : review

I Remember You
When I read a book that is supposed to be romantic I want that: romance . This book has some romance but it is mostly sad.I liked both characters but I would have enjoyed it much more if it had been a happier story.

By romance I mean the feeling expressed in Here to Stay , this beautiful song by Nicolas Wauquiez and Nancy Mensah.

Lukas and Juliet, the young couple in love, are seldom on the same page; when one remembers the other one doesn't and they miss each other even when they are together.  I found it hard to read until the end of the book. However, the final chapters where the best part of the book ,besides I had  the film American Sniper fresh in my mind , which made me understand the situation in the war  better.

Nissi Station (a.k.a. Cafe Nissi ) in Guilin, China: The Best Homemade Cheesecake ever.

This family owned restaurant is just a few feet away from the Sheraton hotel, both are on the same street. The atmosphere is wonderfully relaxing , just like you had  arrived home and were about to have dinner in your own living-room.

This is the map they show on their website.

Although you may feel a little bit guilty for not eating Chinese or at least  Asian food while visiting China, the restaurant is worth more than a visit and I am sure your stomach will welcome the change. The owner has a good level of English and is an excellent cook. Everything was delicious . If you happen to go with your family , you will find that there are books and toys for your  children to play with and the menu is quite extensive and certainly caters for all  Western tastes.Besides it is a non-smoking restaurant and  the price is quite  reasonable given the excellent quality of the food.

Incredibly tasty homemade chicken hamburger.

Spaghetti Carbonara, just like in Italy.

Chinese beer and Chinese coke.

Creamy and soft chesecake , heaven in your mouth.

I would like to thank the owners for the very best meals in Guilin. Their website is  http://nissistation.com/

Are these real TV series ?

Translucent by Dan Rix

Translucent (Translucent, #1)
Even if this is meant to be a science fiction novel and aliens and dark matter are an important part of the book. This is a story about GUILT , the kind of consuming guilt that Leona and Megan feel because of a reckless mistake they had made and tried to cover up.

"You want to know what it feels like?It feels like I'm dead inside . Like I'm hollow. That's what it feels like for me, and that's how it's always going to feel."-Leona says.

At the beginning I liked Leona and Megan, but then they started annoying me, making me angry, infuriating me.I could not believe my eyes when I read what those two were getting away with. Both of them were incredibly selfish, insensitive and stupid at the same time; a stupidity that seemed to be contagious to other characters. I wanted them to confess, to pay for it .They were cowards who wanted to go on with their lives regardless of what they had done. They seemed to be suffering ,and they were to a certain extent, but nothing compared with the suffering they had caused .

But then Leona is finally ready and willing to face the music:

"I wanted this pain. I wanted to feel everything, suffer for everything, suffer like they had suffered. ...It was all my fault. Why hadn't I just come forward? Any punishment would have been easier than this soul-crushing anguish......I would have given them my whole life to have my conscience back".

The subplot about the aliens gets more complicated and plays a very relevant part in the way the novel finally unfolds, although there are times when it seemed irrelevant to me in comparison with the main plot. At the very end there is an unexpected paranormal turn that made my hair stand on end.

When I was reading I couldn't tell whether the book was well written or not, I was too irate to judge, I just had to keep on reading .After I finished , I realised that it was indeed a page-turner that will appeal to many YA readers who like sci-fi, paranormal phenomena and atonement.

Killing Britney by Sean Olin: Review

Killing Britney
If I weren't such a peaceful human being I would have killed Britney myself after the first few chapters of the book, which I reread thinking I had misread something. Well, I didn't!. I just figured out what was going on almost from the very beginning. I wouldn't say it was a bad book, just that it wasn't for me and several gruesome descriptions of murder scenes made matters much worse.

The Girl and the Machine by Beth Revis: Review

The Girl & the Machine

This is my second book by Beth Revis and I am going to keep reading this author for sure. Even if the story is really short the characters are incredibly well developed and the author manages to lead the reader one way to completely twist the story at the  end.

Just one thought that may be a spoiler: I never thought that revenge tasted like pepperoni pizza.
