Lantau Island : Tian Tan and Po Lin monastery.

Lantau Island offers many attractive activities for tourists. We decided to focus on two of them: the so-called Big Buddha and the monastery. The Buddha was constructed in 1993 and it took 12 years to complete. You will need to climb 268 steps to get a closer look at the statue, but don't worry, the climb is worth it because the views are great.

There are several options to get to the Buddha. From Causeway Bay, we decided to take the MRT to Tung  Chung  Station and then although we had planned to go either on the Tung Chung cable car or by bus, both means of transport were so crowded and the weather was so bad that we chose to go by taxi. The road was incredibly winding and I was car sick by the time we got to the top.

It as a very foggy and rainy day but despite the bad weather, we were able to have a nice time. If you travel with children I strongly recommend to plan the trip in advance and choose a sunny day if possible. Remember to wear comfortable shoes to climb the steps!.

In the area, you will also find a nice shopping street.
